Northern Inyo Health Care

Our Mission:
Improving our communities, one life at a time. One Team. One Goal, Your Health.

Our Vision:
Northern Inyo Healthcare District will be known throughout the Eastern Sierra Region for providing high quality, comprehensive care in the most patient friendly way, both locally and in coordination with trusted regional partners.

Our Values:
Values are those beliefs and principles that guide the decision-making and behaviors of staff and thus collectively the actions and accomplishments of an organization. Northern Inyo Healthcare District believes that to successfully achieve its Vision, the District and the staff must abide by six key values and that these values can be divided into three groups:

  • Core Values are those values that are the foundation that defines who will choose to dedicate themselves to the well-being of others
  • Aspirational Values are those values that drive the District and its staff to work towards making tomorrow's care better than yesterday's care
  • Permissive Values are those values without which a patient would not allow you to engage in his/her care.

Our Core Values are:
COMPASSION -- At NIHD we not only care deeply about you but we strive to understand your situation from your point of view. Our compassion is what inspires us to care for you and your loved ones.
INTEGRITY -- At NIHD we know that you expect your healthcare team to embrace the idea that we always do the right thing and are transparent about what we are doing and what we are working on improving.

As staff we believe that these two Values define who we are and why we are in healthcare.

Our Aspirational Values are:
QUALITY/EXCELLENCE -- At NIHD we monitor ourselves to ensure that we strive to exceed the accepted standard of care. We believe that you should feel confident that you are receiving the best care possible through your District.
INNOVATION -- At NIHD we believe that there will always be new ways to care for you and your loved ones. We embrace this continuous review of our progress as we know in our heart of hearts that it will result in the best quality and the best outcomes.

As staff we believe that these two Values define how we got to be who we are today and what we want to be able to do for you tomorrow.

Our Permissive Values are:
TEAM-BASED -- At NIHD we believe that every member of our team is partnered with you, with your loved ones, and with each other to ensure you have the best possible outcome. Without this partnership we cannot understand your goals and we cannot help you achieve those goals. We know our role in your care and strive to achieve that role in a way in partnership with the whole team.
SAFETY -- At NIHD we believe that everyone should feel secure enough to achieve their goals be it a patient receiving care or a staff member meeting the needs of the patient in an environment free from risk or distraction.

As staff we understand that in the absence of our commitment to these two values you, the patient and your loved ones would not allow us to provide your care.

Having a baby should be the happiest experience of your life. Our unit is the most specialized in the hospital because healthy babies and happy moms are our sole focus.

When it's time, our unit is ready to help you and your doctor achieve the best possible labor and delivery outcome. But more than that, our perinatal unit is designed to provide total care for the wellbeing of you and your baby – before, during and after birth.

We're a cohesive team of professionals with extensive training and knowledge of current best practices to help you prepare for childbirth and care for your newborn. We provide a continuum of care for you and your family as a complete family unit.

Preparation is key
Through our NEST (Newborn Evaluation, Support and Teaching) program we can help you set and realize your birthing goals, learn about breastfeeding, and support you through the entire course of breastfeeding your baby.

Preparation is key to a safe and fulfilling experience for you, and the best possible start at a healthy and happy life for your child. When you begin your care with us we will introduce you to our team and show you around the facility. We offer childbirth classes, in English and Spanish, and provide educational materials to help you get ready for the big day. We will work with you to be confident and ready to hold your precious newborn against your skin and begin the bonding and feeding process.

Your baby begins its life with you as close to you as possible. Your baby stays in your room and we are always nearby to help you care for and feed your baby at any time. Many of our nurses are lactation specialists and there's always one on duty to help you through the tricky times. They are also trained in neonatal resuscitation with extensive hands-on experience. If any additional special care is needed, we work closely with all units of the hospital to get immediate attention and coordinate emergency services fast and efficiently.

Support throughout your journey
Giving birth is only the beginning. Once you take your baby home, we are still here to help. Our NEST follow-up visits ensure that your baby is thriving, and you are content and happy. This is a safe, comfortable space for you to discuss your concerns or tell about your achievements. In addition to scheduled visits for our NEST moms and babies, we also offer ‘walk-in' support for all new moms every Tuesday. Our team collaborates with all local community organizations to give moms and babies every advantage at a happy, healthy life.

We are a motivated and engaged team of highly trained and skilled nurses whose only goal is to help families grow and thrive.

We are always here for you.

Diagnostic Services

Before you begin any kind of treatment it's vital to know what's wrong. We are here to help you and your doctor make a diagnosis.

Our diagnostic unit is equipped with the most current technology and staffed by highly qualified and experienced medical professionals. We have the capacity to run an extensive range of laboratory tests and produce a wide-ranging set of reports through diagnostic imaging. Getting an accurate diagnosis will often require that we run multiple tests or a combination of tests and studies. We excel in analyzing the data and recognizing the evidence to create the big picture.

The reports we produce and advice we provide will help your doctor plan the best course of action.

We are experts in laboratory testing and have the capacity to perform 92 different tests in 18 different categories quickly, safely, and accurately right here in Bishop. We can do everything from simple to highly specialized blood work as well as microbiology testing. The results could pinpoint a cause, or an unrecognized problem, and you can begin your treatment with minimal delay.

Our lab equipment exceeds the basic requirements for our designation as a Critical Access Hospital. We have two of every piece of lab testing equipment so there's no downtime. When one piece is operational the other is being checked and tested for quality control. We can run all tests at all times which means, especially as we test for microorganisms, we can keep you, our facility, and our community healthier and safer. Infection control is a priority in any medical facility and we employ the current best practices to identify risk and provide solutions.

It is often more than basic lab work that is needed to identify a problem. The correct diagnosis of illness, and a clear understanding of injury, may need a more detailed view of the body or affected area. This is when diagnostic imaging produces valuable information. We do non- and minimally-invasive studies that result in better exams with better reports.

Our machines are state-of-the-art, and the new technologies mean that you're subjected to less discomfort, shorter testing times, and limited exposure. In addition to the tried-and-tested imaging like, x-ray, we have the latest equipment to conduct CT scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography (including breast MRI), ultrasound, and other highly specialized and specific medical radiology and sonography. In fact, we can scan the entire body, head to foot, into .625mm slices in less than 10 seconds.

A few of our imaging techniques are also used for therapeutic services. We work closely with physicians to provide a combination of diagnosis, intervention, and therapy.

Our team of scientists, technologists, technicians, and assistants hold some of the highest certifications in their respective fields. They provide best practices in testing and produce highly accurate diagnostic results. This combination of up-to-date equipment and superior professional expertise means you don't need to leave Bishop, nor do we have to send your test specimen away.

We can do more, because we are committed to making sure you have local access.

You want to find out what's wrong and get the best possible treatment in a timely manner. That's why we believe in the efficient coordination of patient care. Whether you come to us as an outpatient, or we serve you as a hospital patient, our team has excellent relationships with local physicians, our outpatient clinics, and our hospital nursing floors. We have processes and procedures in place that ensure the right result at the right time.

You are not an exam. You are a person. Our team is here to serve you and your family.
